The Ice hike excursion takes 5 hours approximately and has two daily departures at 08:00 am and 02:30 pm.
You will navigate in a zodiac boat for 20 minutes to the main tongue of the Grey Glacier. Upon arrival, you will disembark on the glacier island (Nunatak) and start walking on the glacier moraine for an hour until we reach the ice and access it in the safest way
This hike requires good physical condition and you should always wear appropriate clothing for this excursion, which includes sunglasses, hat, gloves, waterproof clothing, and shoes with good grip on the ankles.
Before entering the glacier, the guide will give a safety briefing in which will explain the techniques for walking on the ice and the correct use of the equipment. Once the talk is over, the incomparable adventure of hiking on the ice will begin for about 2.5 hours on the Grey Glacier, observing cracks, rivers, lagoons, tunnels, and ice caves.
- Make sure you carry thermal clothing as well as waterproof
- To get to the base you can either take the Grey Glacier Navigation with us or take the Lake Pehoé Catamaran and do the hike Paine Grande - Grey (sleepover) - Paine Grande and then return in the same Navigation
- If you're doing the W Trek then the ice hike experience is a perfect way to either finish or start the trek!
